The December meeting was another well attended event! The Chapter Store and participating vendors were well stocked!

Days events began at 11am with chapter member Gus Minardi sharing his story of how he found and developed his life long interest in the PRR and modeling. Gus displayed samples of four trains (Ore, Coal, Truc-Train and mixed freight) which he’s recently modeled (see photos left).

The feature presentation was given by chapter favorite Mitchell Dakelman. Mitchell’s presentation included a slide show of stellar PRR power and equipment. A Mitchell Dakelman presentation is never complete without an original film and the audience was not disappointed with “Diesels Roar on the Pennsy” - depicting operations along the Middle Division

Feature Presentation:

The Wreck of The Broker
The Story of New Jersey’s Deadliest Train Wreck

Special guest speaker Gordon Bond presented a summary of his research, to date, on the 1951 wreck of The Broker.

Gordon Bond has conducted interviews with surviving individuals who experienced the wreck from a wide range of perspectives - passengers, family of those killed or injured, witnesses, rescuers, hospital staff, and railroad historians. Set against contemporary newspaper reports, a powerful and moving account was conveyed.  Gordon continued with a more technical analysis of the subsequent investigations, animated as much by politics and strong personalities as engineering and physics.

Attendees greatly enjoyed the presentation and look forward to Gordon Bond’s upcoming book release!
